Catherine Chan is a professional photographer and visual artist who uses photography to tell stories. Prior to graduating from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2010, Catherine received an Honours Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Toronto in Biogeography and Physics, and a Master of Science degree at the University of Guelph in Soil Science. Her experiences in the natural sciences continue to inform her work.
Catherine’s work often encompasses themes of environmental and social sustainability, the passage of time, memory and impermanence. Her passion is in using film photography to capture stories, though she works comfortably in both analogue and digital media. Her inspiration comes from the landscape, beauty found in unexpected places, and from the openness of people’s hearts.
